BREAKING: Dreamcast Portable confirmed by Sega!

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

April Fools Anyone?Sega released some unbelievable new information to their shareholders last night regarding future projects. They released information regarding the release of a secret Sonic project (Sonic Unleashed) alongside snippets of information regarding a huge hardware project. Obviously we at GoY are very exited about this news as we are big fans of the Dreamcast. They plan to make a public announcement at the end of the month but they have let some information slip.

They revealed that the new device will “provide strong competition to the portable industry” and they have some flagship titles already in the works which will be announced alongside the mysterious console. The fact that they claimed it would be possible for them to create an affordable portable device for emulating previous Sega consoles (claimed last April) fortifies out hopes for a Dreamcast portable.

Is this a dream?

April 2008: Game(s) to look forward to

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

March has seen quite a few high-quality releases, with a few more to come before the end of the month. Because of this, you may think that the number of releases may slow down for April. If you think this, you are wrong and should be shot. If you think that there is only one game worth picking up coming out this month then you should also be shot. Not as much as those who think there are no games, but shot nonetheless. The number of released this month may be short but the quality means that April is most definitely a sweet month for gaming this year. There isn’t just one game coming out this month, but there is a game. A highly anticipated game. A game which, if it were released any other time than now would be game of the year, nay, century. Read on as we reveal the cracking line up for April. (more…)

Don’t hate the player, hate the industry

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

After buying a second-hand PSP, GoYUK Editor Dave Barlow tells us why it’s fantastic to be a cheapskate.

Cheap skateOne of the best things about jumping ship to a console fairly late in the game is that one can cherry-pick from the finest games to have been made during the console’s comparatively long life - most of which are available for a few quid, since they’re supposedly out of date! You won’t catch me buying Ridge Racer at full RRP, no sir.

As an example (and an exercise in my own smugness), here are the games which currently occupy the pile next to my bed:

  • Metal Gear Acid - £5
  • CRUSH - £6
  • Patapon - $20 (about £10.50)
  • Tekken: Dark Resurrection - with console
  • Sega Genesis Collection - with console

Now, when you consider that I paid about £70 for the PSP (with games!), we’re laughing. For under £100, I’ve bought a console which is still very relevant, as well as what I consider to be some of the top games for that system, with a few pennies spare for Loco Roco when I see it.

EA won’t take no for an answer

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

EA are no strangers to buying out competitors, in fact that’s how they’ve come to grow so huge in the first place. You may have head about EA’s recent attempt to buy out publisher Take-Two, and their subsequent dismissal to said offer. Well now it looks as if EA are biting back as they’ve decided to take their offer straight to Take-Two’s shareholders. This is all business talk which we GameOnYou simpletons don’t really get down with but basically EA are prepared to go to great lengths to get their greasy mitts on Take-Two and thus, Grand Theft Auto.

We Say: No Chance

Sony: We don’t give a f*ck about Microsoft price cuts, capice?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

We just don't give a f*ckIf you’ve been following the gaming news, analysts recently predicted that Sony are going to be worried after the Xbox 360 price-cuts as it may cause sales to dry up. Sony, always the optimists, say this is not the case. Which is no surprise, what is a surprise is that they give a resoundingly good reason. They say that PS3 sales will continue uphill due to the fact that it has Blu-Ray integrated into the system. While this may be true I’m not so sure as Blu-Ray player prices are, like the 360, falling.

If this argument proves to be correct then Microsoft will not be happy as the 360 cut was a snide attempt to undercut the PS3 not only in price but also due to the large volume of exclusive titles coming to the console. Looks like Microsoft will have to rely on their own hard-hitting sequels in the holidays. That, and GTA IV.

Big Rockstar sequel planned for 2009

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Leeeeeemiiiiiiings!!!11oneTake-Two have confirmed that Rockstar have a major sequel in the works which will go into the final stages of development after GTAIV has been released. This info was given in to investors earlier today and while details are slim, we can speculate on the possibilities.

Our money’s on either a sequel to Max Payne (alongside the release of the upcoming film), Red Dead Revolver 2, Manhunt 3, Bully or (if we’re very lucky) Lemmings X: Rise of the Machines. From the previous statement you may have guessed we at GoY are not the gambling types, but if we’re right at least we’ll win a fraction of the money we bet and a fraction of the respect we lost.

Fired Gamespot employee launches his own site

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

JeffWe all know who Jeff Gerstmann is by now. If you don’t, he is responsible for creating the biggest controversy Gamespot has ever seen. He was fired right after his review for Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which he only gave a 6/10, or as most would view it, an undesirable score.

Rumours started to circulate that Eidos Interactive, the studio behind Kane & Lynch, weren’t too fond of his review. Eidos Interactive had put big money on advertising Kane & Lynch on Gamespot’s site, therefore Gamespot wasn’t too happy with Jeff. While CNET and Gamespot both say his termination wasn’t related to the review, we all know it was. (more…)

The Sims 3 First Details!

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

money money money money, Muh-neyIt was inevitable. EA couldn’t be content with the money they’ve made from The Sims 2 (which has been in the UK game charts since its release) and of course we’re not surprised. We know EA are no strangers to shameless money making schemes with their almost monthly Sims expansion packs and yearly updates to their sports titles.

EA have released the first details of The Sims 3 through fellow money-hounds Microsoft’s very own Games for Windows magazine and thus through 1up.com. This news tells of larger, more dynamic neighbourhoods where everything within can interact seamlessly. It is also promised that Sim’s individual needs will be better integrated and mechanical routines will be abolished in favour of Sim freedom, where your Sims can go out and enjoy themselves without simultaneously throwing tantrums, visually smelling and publicly relieving themselves.

Myk’s Rant: Porn for all types

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Ed: Myk goes on a hangover-fuelled rant about the Great Graphical Debate. With not a hint of objectivity in sight. Just the way we like it:

Is that all blue?Humans, eh? Attracted to each other as they are, if they don’t get what they want, they go somewhere else. Now I find the opposite sex really rather nice, but if Saturday night doesn’t produce one that catches my eye, then I can find a selection of images that just might. Simple really. I do not think any less of these people or make assumptions about their private life.

But deviancy can be better levelled at another, less obvious type of character; graphic whores. These obsessive, whining miscreants do nothing but infest the gaming community with dismissive, casual comments but all it realises is how anal and retarded their viewpoints actually are. Geometry Wars on the 360 played through in High Definition is undoubtedly spectacular, but this does not mean that the Wii version lacks any game substance from that found on the aforementioned XBox 360.

From here I could go into detail about the Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur still looking great or Exit on the PSP, and soon to be the DS, which just looks ace. Blah Blah Blah, etc. The point is that these people need to be set on fire and pushed over a very tall, dry cliff. Keep looking for next time when the merits of development milestones just means the introduction of marketing dross for mass-market consumption.

SCi Cutting Corners (and Jobs)

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

SCi Entertainment, Publisher of such series as Hitman, Tomb Raider and Championship Manager, has revealed plans to “revamp” the company. Plans involving scrapping 14 projects and giving 260 Kanye West, CEO of SCi Entertainmentemployees the sack. Nice.

This news comes after revelations that the company made an 81.4 million dollar loss last year, a problem which they’ve decided to combat with, well.. more money. 55 Million dollars more money. Figures.

SCi are shedding pounds in an attempt to become harder, better, faster and stronger.
