April Fools’ joke ends in misery - UPDATED

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

April FoolLate Monday night/Tuesday morning, the official GTA VI site listed some April Fools’ news which stated that a HMV store in Birmingham (the site gave the address of a specific store) would be selling pre-release copies of the game on 360 at opening time on the 1st of April. Rockstar (presumably they were at the heart of the prank) presumed that GTA fans would either see through the fairly obvious joke, or would arrive at the store only to ask for a copy of an unreleased game and realise their own stupidity.

Video Friday

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

A new feature for your lucky eyes and ears!

The day may change at some point, but every week we’ll try to bring you a good ten minutes’ of gaming videos that we think you’ll enjoy.

Here goes, then!

First up, we give in to our fanboy-ish tendencies. The guys at GameVideos go over the latest GTA IV trailer with a fine-tooth cyber-comb. The result: a reassuring feeling that someone out there is actually nerdier than you (plus you won’t have to go home and do it yourself, later)

Next up it’s Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw’s review of Fable. Mainly because it’s rather comical. Okay, entirely because it’s a ruddy good larf.

New GTA Trailer = hastily-written post!

GTA IV TrailerGet your giddy arse over to the official GTA IV site now!

That’s all I have to say. Seriously. I’m going to watch it again. It’s more important to me than you guys.

Update: Grab a downloadable version over at Gametrailers.com

We can be Heroes… Halo 3 map pack free!

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Major Nelson has informed Xboxers that the Halo 3 Heroic Map pack, containing 3 new multiplayer maps, is now available for free from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Standoff
The symmetrical valley of Standoff, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types.

Rat’s Nest

The vast, labyrinthine passages of the Rat’s Nest bring something completely new to the multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise. Strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, this map is ideal for big team battles.

Foundry

Foundry is the ultimate Forge map. Players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, placing stairways, walls, bridges, and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map imaginable.

Exiting stuff, although it’s a shame that Halo 3 is such an average game.

April 2008: Game(s) to look forward to

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

March has seen quite a few high-quality releases, with a few more to come before the end of the month. Because of this, you may think that the number of releases may slow down for April. If you think this, you are wrong and should be shot. If you think that there is only one game worth picking up coming out this month then you should also be shot. Not as much as those who think there are no games, but shot nonetheless. The number of released this month may be short but the quality means that April is most definitely a sweet month for gaming this year. There isn’t just one game coming out this month, but there is a game. A highly anticipated game. A game which, if it were released any other time than now would be game of the year, nay, century. Read on as we reveal the cracking line up for April. (more…)

The best time to jump on the 360 bandwagon?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Master ChiefWell, the 360’s been around for a while now and all of the big franchises have hit the market. This is epitomised in Amazon UK’s latest 360 bundle deal. For £184.98, you can get the console itself (Xbox 360 Arcade), Halo 3 and a pre-order of Grand theft Auto IV (just enough time left for you to complete the third instalment of Master Chief’s exploits before the Greatest Game Ever Made destroys your social life, then).

If you’ve been on the fence about whether to get a “next-gen” gaming console, or you think your PS3 looks lonely on its own in front of your TV, this might be the time to find out just what you’ve been missing all this time.

Hit the link and read the blurb on the page to find out how to bundle these top two titles in with your new 360.

Have More Videogames, HMV Sale!

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Well, looks like HMV are having another sale (any excuse, right?) and so far it looks better than their January sale (which, to be honest wouldn’t take a whole lot of effort). They have some half decent prices on a few games though at the moment, with Burnout Paradise for PS3 at only £29.99 and Stranglehold for Xbox 360 for £12.99.

CoD4 Map Pack Anncounced

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

omglolwtf?Information regarding an upcoming multiplayer map-pack for (the 360 version of) COD4 has cropped up, in the form of an mini-page on Xbox.com. The pack will comprise of 4 new maps and will cost a whopping 800 Microsoft points (about £10). We think this is a ridiculous price-tag to slap on something so small, we don’t like micro-transactions but this is the wrong way of doing away with them! Who in their right mind would pay ten pounds of their hard-earned dosh on 4 measley maps? That works out at £2 per map, which may not sound like too much, but it all adds up. This is made worse by the fact that the Mass Effect add-on, which gives you an hour and a half of extra single player entertainment, costs only 400 points and it is made even worser by the fact that you can download many class maps for the PC version, for free!

excitementNow normally you have no doubt come to expect a certain amount of quality and comment from our posts here at GoYUK, but for this one I just haven’t got it in me. I’m too excited.

Grand Theft Auto will be the Complete Game. It’s official. Not even Smash Bros will keep us happy for as long as GTA IV promises to. I’m not even going to do my own writeup for the news, I’ll just copy and paste! Lookies!

The majority of games support sixteen simultaneous gangsters.

Each player can customize the character’s appearance, gender and race, among other details.

The fourteen identified multiplayer modes identified are:
